A Keaau man and woman were arrested Tuesday for allegedly operating a pot farm in Puna.

Marcus G. Roberts and Yardley S. Duran, both 32, were charged with first-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, attempted first-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, promoting a harmful drug, possessing a gun without a permit and two counts of drug paraphernalia possession.

Police executed a search warrant at noon on a 27th Avenue property in Hawaiian Paradise Park, and confiscated 236 marijuana plants in an outdoor grow between 1-4 feet in height, almost 5 1/2 pounds of processed marijuana, sticky residue of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia. A semi-automatic pistol was seized as well, according to a police spokeswoman.

Both Roberts and Duran were released after posting $24,250 bail. They are scheduled to appear in Hawaii District Court on Dec. 19.
